Radical Earth

This of course is not just any mountain, this is Mount Rainier, also known as Tahoma, or Takhoma by Pacific Northwest native tribes. Mount Rainier, one of the most iconic active volcanoes in the Pacific ring of fire, is located in the Cascade range of Washington State, U.S.A. The summit rises to 14,410 ft, and holds over 25 glaciers. The Emmons glacier is showcased in this picture (as are parts of other glaciers), which has the largest surface area of any glacier in the contiguous United States. I took this picture from the Sunrise area, just before the sun crested the Eastern horizon. This was the first day, of a 9 day, 10 night hike around Mount Rainier National Parks Wonderland trail. The trail is celebrating 100 years in 2015. It passes through 10 major glacial valleys, old growth forest, and high alpine terrain. The entire trail covers 93 miles, and hikers enjoy over 24,000 vertical feet of elevation gain and loss. Stay tuned for a complete gallery of the adventure soon. #findyourpark
