A Sunrise, a Sunset

A recent back-packing excursion to the summit of South Loon, one of the tallest peaks in the Lick Creek sub-range of the Salmon River Mountains, just outside of McCall, Idaho delivered a one-two punch of remarkable summer skies. In the first picture we are looking towards the South Fork Salmon river, North Americas, third deepest river gorge. In the distance, the Frank Church River of No Return wilderness spans out to the Middle Fork Salmon, and Main Salmon drainage’s. The main Salmon river lays claim to the second deepest river canyon in North America.
Hazy, layers of purple, smoky peach, and light blue greet us with our coffee.

In the second picture we are looking towards the Seven Devils range, on the breaks of Hells Canyon, and the Snake river, North Americas deepest river gorge. These pictures are atop the 9,287 South Loon peak. Here is a climbers guide on SummitPost.org
